Thanks very much, that is helpful. We will be leaving Kaiya for the first time for 3 nights so I want to prepare her for it.
I'm interested in the class - I'll look into it!

P.S. I do offer a tele-class "Basic Animal Communication for Daily Living" which explores exactly what you ask, Katie. We talk about the various scenarios in which it is helpful and appropriate to convey information to our animals, guidelines on how to create communications for the best possible outcome, and there is opportunity to develop your own real-time communication with your pet. If this sounds like fun, maybe I'll see you in class!

Thanks for the question, Katie, and an opportunity to explain. All three methods work well, and generally you'll be using a combination. Animals can pick up on our communications in any of these forms, so the method really depends more on the human than your pet's personality. If you are most comfortable talking with your pet eyeball to eyeball, that's great. Just be purposeful in your communication, and as simple in the phrasing as possible. I think you will find that by saying the words in a very short sentence or phrase, you will notice that you can't help but bring a picture of those words to your mind. If you are comfortable and skilled at creating mental images in your mind and bringing forward emotions without verbally expressing your intent, then by all means communicate with your pet in that way. The key to any of these - saying words outloud, bring mental images to your mind, or bringing forward appropriate feelings and emotions - is to be sincere and clear in your communications, be clear that the communication is intended for your particular pet (look him in the eye or bring a mental picture of him to your mind) and convey your communication with love and respect. Have fun practicing!

This might be a silly question, but do you suggest actually talking to your pet, or thinking about the words while looking them in the eye and maybe concentrating on the feelings you want to convey? Or does it just depend on your pet's personality?

I'm a professional dog walker and have been using Wendy's collar companions for the past several months. I'm especially fond of her blend "Let's Chill." When I walk dogs who are anxious, nervous or even somewhat aggressive, a collar companion with Let's Chill is as essential as a leash and collar.
